Endometriosis Assessment Program

What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a complex, chronic disease that is characterized by the abnormal growth of tissue similar to the endometrium, that grows outside of the uterus. It is most often found in the pelvis, but can effect many different organ systems in the body. Common symptoms of endometriosis include pain, fatigue, abnormal or heavy flow, fertility struggles and diarrhea, constipation and nausea during menstruation.

What is the Endometriosis Assessment Program?

The Endometriosis Assessment Program is offered by Beam Radiology to provide imaging of the pelvis, ovaries and bladder with a specialized approach to assess for signs of endometriosis. It is a systemic approach using the IDEA (International Deep Endometriosis Analysis) group protocol, which is a standardized protocol that is useful for the classification and diagnosis of deep infiltrating endometriosis.

FAQs

How do I access the Endometriosis Assessment Program?

Speak with your medical provider about the Endometriosis Assessment Program. It is an exam that can be ordered on the Beam General Requisition by selecting Endometriosis Assessment (IDEA).

What can I expect at my appointment?

The Endometriosis Assessment exam is more detailed than a routine pelvic ultrasound and follows the IDEA (International Deep Endometriosis Analysis) protocol, a standardized approach used to assess for signs of endometriosis. The examination includes a systematic evaluation of the uterus, ovaries, bladder, and surrounding pelvic structures.

A transvaginal ultrasound is typically required to allow for optimal visualization. Additional time is scheduled to complete the assessment in a thorough and structured manner. Your comfort and communication are prioritized throughout the exam, and results are interpreted by a Beam Radiologist, with a detailed report sent to your referring healthcare provider.
